Janet Hayes is an experienced artist and teacher offering art classes, workshops and demonstrations in pastel, acrylic, ink and watercolour, and mixed media. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to take your work to the next level, Janet’s classes offer a supportive and inspiring environment for artists of all experience levels.

Janet is also available for private teaching, art demonstrations and judging art shows and competitions.

Art Classes for All Skill Levels

Janet teaches a wide range of subjects and techniques, including:

  • Pastel, acrylic, ink and watercolour

  • Mixed media, drawing and sketching

  • Still life and portraiture

  • Life drawing and landscapes

  • Painting techniques, composition and colour

Classes are kept small to allow for individual attention and tailored guidance. Sessions typically begin with a discussion about materials, followed by a step-by-step demonstration. Students then work on their own pieces, with Janet offering practical advice, demonstrations and personal feedback along the way.

Throughout the classes, students explore and develop their skills in:

  • Drawing and observation

  • Composition and perspective

  • Tone, colour and light

  • Materials and techniques

  • Finishing and presentation

  • Personal expression and creative confidence

Students can work from still-life arrangements provided in class or bring their own reference material and subject ideas. Classes are suitable for beginners through to advanced artists.

Testimonials

"Janet has been my painting mentor and teacher for the past two years. Janet's ability to intuitively understand my direction and essence as a painter has enabled me to develop my confidence as a painter. Janet's eye for colour and technique is second to none and her ability to teach in an open manner has allowed me to find my own voice and trust the process of my work." - Nicole Donegan

”Janet has exceptional generosity and talent as a teacher” - S. O.

“This workshop today was exactly what I was looking for. Super informative with many tips from Janet. What a delight to have a teacher who spent time with each of us equally. This is a great place to start your pastel journey.”

“Really helpful class that helped me to play and explore with the materials and see what they can do. The exercises leading up to the main work were enjoyable and useful. It was good to losen up my watercolour painting and enjoy a more relaxed approach, focus on strength of colour and not worry too much about the detail. Very enjoyable and worthwhile.”

“Janet was helpful in her advice and attentive to each person in the group.”

“Can recommend for beginners or those with little experience in watercolour and ink.”

“Great opportunity to practise portraiture in a supportive environment”

“The class was well paced and the teacher's demonstrations were clear and informative. The model was excellent too. Pastel is a wonderful medium. I can recommend attending Janet Hayes classes.”

“Really enjoyed this class, Janet was obviously a talented painter but also a helpful teacher. As my first watercolour class I felt welcomed and learned a lot. Many thanks.”

“This is a fantastic watercolour class! Very insightful and inspiring. Would recommend to any level experience!”
